Legionella Testing Service

Environmental sampling for Legionella is not required but may be helpful in providing a safe environment for employees, visitors, patients, clients, and tenants – anyone who passes through your facility. Developing a management plan for waterborne pathogens, which may include testing, helps facilities remain within the guidelines for OSHA and JCAHO (for healthcare facilities).

Our laboratories around the world specialize in providing testing and analysis of environmental water samples for Legionella and other pathogens to our large base of industrial and commercial clients. It allows Nalco EHS to continue its philosophy of providing customers with a managed response to the problems associated with Legionella and other waterborne pathogens.

Our laboratories are ISO 9001 certified and Legionella testing is performed using the ISO 11731 procedure (culture method). Standardized methods, strict quality control and laboratory accreditation is essential. Nalco is responsible for more Legionella analyses than anyone in the world.

Analysis of water samples from a source suspected of being contaminated with L. pneumophila is a valuable means of identifying potential sources of the disease. Our qualified microbiological laboratories are experienced in Legionella detection and determine the number of organisms present in colony forming units (CFU) per volume of water and can identify the different serogroups of Legionella pneumophila in the sample.

Other Legionella species are also reported. EHS provides you with an extensive portfolio of services and the ability to test for a variety of microbial organisms including:

  • Legionella
  • Pseudomonas
  • Sulfate reducing bacteria
  • Molds
  • Fungi
  • Protozoa

Nalco’s Legionella Testing Service contributes directly to key intangible value drivers that do not appear on financial statements, by improving the customer experience, increasing worker productivity and enhancing brand equity.
