PARETO™ Mixing Technology

PARETO Mixing Technology effectively balances and provides the optimal feeding solution of the interrelated and dependent variables of hydrodynamics, chemistry and water management to bring you multiple benefits, such as reduced cost, improved operational efficiencies and enhanced finished product quality.

PARETO Mixing Technology is used to improve and optimize the delivery of retention aid and other process chemicals to the paper machine. As an integral part of SMART Solutions, PARETO technology focuses on the many variables that impact quality in modern papermaking, delivering optimization of key system inputs and improved machine efficiency. PARETO technology can provide significant improvement in chemical efficacy while minimizing the consumption of key resources such as water and energy PARETO technology has already helped our customers to save (as of 2009):

  • 1 Billion gallons of fresh water (4.0 million m3), roughly the equivalent annual water consumption of 9,000 average American homes
  • 400 billion btus (>120 GW-h) of energy, equivalent to nearly 71,000 barrels of crude oil
  • 30,000 tons of CO2, equivalent to removing 5,900 cars from the road

PARETO Mixing Technology is a patented, custom-engineered approach to feeding technology. Central to the PARETO technology offering is the PARETO Optimizer, whose unique design works in combination with custom CFD calculations and an unique understanding of chemistry to ensure that injection into the thin stock stream is achieved efficiently and effectively.

Your custom-engineered PARETO technology program begins with a preliminary screening test, a MixJet® analysis, a free comparison to alternative feed methodology and custom CFD calculations. The delivery systems will then be engineered to your specific needs, aided by additional physical simulations that will optimize feed point and selection additive. Combined with other novel Nalco technologies such as Core Shell®, POSITEK 3G™ and ULTIMER®, a PARETO program provides for unsurpassed wet-end performance.
