COIL-FLO® HVAC Cleaning Technology

Dirty coils, improper refrigerant levels, worn out compressors or condensers, can cause your air conditioning system to cool less efficiently than it should. An inefficient system means higher energy bills. It also forces the compressor to work harder than is necessary and can actually shorten its life span.

The main energy demand in operating an air conditioning system comes from the compression of refrigerant. The hotter the compressor receives the refrigerant from the process the more energy is required for it to be forced through the condenser (typically an external chiller such as an air blast unit or open evaporative condenser) in order for it to become cold enough for it to absorb more heat from the process.

Where the refrigerant is not sufficiently cooled by the condenser, energy consumption increases as the refrigerant vapour pressure increases.

It is essential for efficient air-conditioning operation, that the condenser is able to efficiently reject heat through the heat exchange coils, and the cooling airflow. Therefore, the coils must be free of dirt and debris in order to achieve this.

As heat exchange determines the efficiency of the whole system, Nalco has developed the Coil Flo program, together with customers, for deep cleaning of condenser and air handler coils.

Nalco uses Coil Flo, a low pressure water and bespoke detergent mixture, to remove dust, dirt, traffic film, grease and bacterial slime from the fins of the coils or the heat exchanger to restore lost heat transfer capability and to reduce HVAC energy costs. Each Coil Flo cleaning is accompanied by an energy calculation to demonstrate the energy improvement.
